Installing front shocks to hydro suspension
- Go fetch a pair of mounting brackets- ones off a dead Clubby will do. You also need 8 bolts 1/4" UNF x 3/4" & spring washers, and the Clubby's 2 lower shock bolts (3/8" UNF) & nuts.
- With a 1/4" UNF tap, clean out the 8 threads in the body where the brackets go. Paint brackets & bolt on. Note the shock mount pins go to TOP..
- Remove the top bumpstops from the top arms
- Drill out the top arm bolt holes to 10.0mm to suit the 3/8" bolts. If they are too hard to drill, give up... Shocked and go buy a pair of M8 x 100mm Unbrako cap head bolts (grade 9 or 12) and 4x grade 8, 8mm nuts instead.
- Drill the top bumpstop brackets to suit whichever bolts you are using.
- If using the 8mm bolts, I make 2 steel bushes 8mm ID x 3/8" OD x 25mm long to locate the bolts in the shocks- but they probably not absolutely essential.
- Shocks- you only want stock ones, not adjustables or hard ones. I've run Pedders for 9 years and they are still fine.
- Use flat washers between shock and bumpstop bracket on top arm, to ensure shock is `vertical'.
- If using the 8mm bolts, the extra 2 nuts are locknuts, just to ensure they stay tight.
